Job Description

Location: San Diego, CA (Preferred) | Open to Candidates Throughout California & the Western U.S.

Compensation: $115,000-$145,000+ Depending on Experience, Knowledge, and Capabilities

License Required: Current California Insurance License

Key Responsibilities

Client Management & Risk Advisory

  • Manage the new business and renewal process for assigned accounts.
  • Review risk management surveys and identify exposures to loss.
  • Advise clients on appropriate insurance coverages and risk management strategies.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients and carrier partners to support retention and service excellence.
  • Explain policy provisions, coverage recommendations, and payment requirements to clients.
  • Conduct client meetings, training sessions, and proposal presentations independently.

Marketing & Insurance Placement

  • Develop marketing strategies with Risk Advisors, Executive Client Managers, and clients.
  • Prepare and submit new and renewal business applications to insurance carriers.
  • Market accounts and negotiate coverage terms, pricing, and commissions.
  • Collaborate with underwriters and clients to obtain information necessary for underwriting and placement.
  • Maintain strong relationships with carrier underwriters and key insurance partners.

Technical Expertise & Account Oversight

  • Analyze complex insurance coverages and class code assignments.
  • Review underwriting information, including:
    • Loss Ratios
    • Experience Modification Ratings (EMR)
    • Audit Dispute Resolution
  • Create and manage client-facing and carrier-facing documents, including:
    • Statements of Values
    • Schedules
    • Coverage documentation
    • Other account-related materials
  • Conduct contract and lease reviews to identify risk exposures and compliance concerns.
  • Review Certificates of Insurance for contractual compliance and provide guidance to clients regarding certificate requirements.
  • Monitor significant claims and risk control issues in partnership with the Risk Control Department.
  • Identify discrepancies, documentation errors, and coverage gaps while ensuring accuracy across client files and policy documentation.

Team Collaboration & Mentorship

  • Support Risk Advisors in developing, retaining, and growing client accounts.
  • Oversee, direct, schedule, and mentor assigned High-Performance Team (HPT) members.
  • Provide technical training and mentorship to team members.
  • Assist in onboarding and developing newer insurance professionals.
  • Communicate potential Errors & Omissions (E&O) concerns to leadership promptly and appropriately.
  • Foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment focused on service excellence.

Qualifications

Required

  • Current California Insurance License.
  • 5+ years of Client Management experience within the insurance industry.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other business technology applications.
  • Strong understanding of commercial insurance coverages and risk management principles.

Preferred

  • Professional insurance industry designations (CIC, CRM, CPCU, ARM, or similar).
  • Experience managing complex commercial accounts.
  • Experience mentoring or training team members.
